LOT NUMBER 8
Mille Fiori perfume bottle and stopper, probably Murano, late C20th
A perfume bottle and stopper, the body of typical globular form with a narrow cylindrical neck below a flat rim, the stopper with a leaf form handle and a rope twist wand, the bottle decorated in the classic ‘mille fiori’ (thousand flower) design, formed from tiny rods of coloured glass. The technique is, of course, principally associated with the Murano glassworks and many examples exist with a label to confirm the identification. This is missing here so certainty is not possible, but the attribution seems reasonable. An unusual feature is the form of the stopper which has miraculously survived intact. Usually the wand is plain but here it has rope twist moulding which is far less common. Dating is most likely to the late twentieth century.| Size: | Ht (max) 10cm, Ht (bottle) 7.2cm, Width (max) 5.8cm, Stopper length 6.2cm, Stopper width (max) 1.7cm |
| Weight: | 90gm |
