LOT NUMBER 11
Indian Silver constructed Necklace, probably 1930s
This is an anklet bracelet (the size is too large for the wrist) that has been converted into a necklace with the addition of a chain. It comprises very detailed silver work with beadwork and hanging chain loops. There is a tag stamped 'DHANPAT' 'REGD' which appears to indicate that the design is patented in some way. The Indian firm Dhanpat Jewellery, which still trades today, is located in King Koti, Hyderabad and was founded in 1931. The style and composition of this piece suggests a prewar dating, but it could perhaps be later. It is formed from 800 grade silver presenting a finish which is slightly duller than 925 standard wares. There is certainly a hint of Eastern exotic here and the quality of the bracelet can be appreciated much more fully in its adapted form!Size: | 47 cm long, 29 mm wide |
