LOT NUMBER 9
Small ewer, Model No 207/16, Jasba Keramik (with label), 1960s
A small ewer of Art Deco like form, the bulbous body above raised band foot and below a long slender neck curving outwards towards the rim which is cut away to form the spout, opposite to which is an elongated loop handle, the black glaze with feather pattern streaks in blues and yellows dotted with oval orange spots, the base, handle and top rim with gilding, the interior and base also glazed in black with raised moulded marks underneath ‘WEST GERMANY’ ‘207/16’, the neck with a foil label reading ‘Jasba Keramik’.The firm Jasba Keramik was founded in 1926 by Jakob Schwaderlapp in Ransbach-Baumbach and takes its name from letters drawn from both his name and the location of his factory (‘JA’ ‘S’ ‘BA’). Its earlier pieces produced in the 1950s were fairly restrained being followed by more colourful wares created in the 1960s and early 1970s under the influence of its chief designer at the time, Christiane Reuter, until production of decorative ceramics ceased in 1975. This ewer is clearly one of the later pieces and combines an Art Deco inspired form with colourful glaze effects somewhat reminiscent of 1960s designs in general. Dating is therefore most likely to that time.
