Chinese Porcelain Teabowl and Spoon Tray with calligraphy insciptions, 1997
Probably a remnant from a rather larger more extensive tea service, these two pieces of Chinese porcelain comprise a tea bowl and a small spoon tray, white glazed with calligraphic inscriptions. The writing on the tray reads ‘Tea Ceremony’ ‘Tea for the lucky ones’ ‘Those who are rich drink tea and those who are rich drink tea exclusively’ ‘Xinhele Tea’ ‘National Treasure blessing’ with a stamped iron red four character mark to the reverse. The characters on the bowl indicate the ‘Ding Chou’ year, the Chinese year of the Ox recurring every sixty years and accordingly most likely 1997 here.
