Lithograph Print, Le Pont Alexandre III in Paris, signed Herbelot, 1950s/1960s
This is a lithograph print of the famous ‘Pont Alexandre III’ in Paris. The bridge itself was built between 1996 and 1900 and named after Tsar Alexander III of Russia, who had concluded the Franco-Russian Alliance in 1892. It connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower and is one of the landmarks of the French capital. Herbelot (doubtless a pseudonym; his first name is unknown) was a French artist active in Paris from the 1940s to the 1960s. Most of his works depict Parisian scenes and are found as lithographs produced from watercolour originals. His style, impressionistic with a muted palette of colours, is typical of mid century work and extremely pleasing to the eye. Perhaps sold as a tourist souvenir at the time this image today is a highly evocative portrayal of the ‘great city’ and is matched by a frame typical of the era.Size: | Picture 32 x 40 cm, Frame 36.5 x 44.5 cm |
