The Stars and Stripes newspaper is a daily American military newspaper reporting on matters concerning the members of the United States Armed Forces. It was first printed in 1861 and is still in circulation today. During World War Two it was printed in many editions in many locations. This example was the Paris Edition and announces the momentous news of Germany’s surrender on May 8th, 1945, anticipating the simultaneous ‘official’ announcement by the British, American and Russian governments later in the day at 3.00pm.
