LOT NUMBER 1
Oriental Lacquer Box in the form of a Duck
This is an amusing trinket box in the form of a duck made from black lacquer with gilt decoration, the lid with wings and a feathered tail and the head with gilt eyes and beak. The base has a simple band of a repeating gilt geometric design. The form resembles the well known Chinese export porcelain 'goose' tureens made in the eighteenth century and since the lacquer technique here resembles that of other contemporary Chinese pieces a provenance from China seems likely. The whimsical style also suggests a date of manufacture in the 1960s or 1970s.Size: | 22 cm long, 13 cm high and 10 cm wide |
