Pair of Davidson Chevron Pattern Glass Vases, 1930s
A pair of clear pressed glass vases of rounded hexagonal form the body flaring out towards the scalloped top rim with a shaped base below, the decoration employing the well known ‘chevron pattern’, typical of Art Deco designs. These vases were designed by W.J.G Fullerton for the firm George Davidson of Gateshead in the 1930s, with the pattern number 295.George Davidson founded the Teams Flint Glass Works in 1867, which later became known as George Davidson & Co. In the 1880s the company began producing pressed glass tableware in a variety of shapes and by the 1920s their designs began to reflect the new Art Deco trends. The firm continued production until the 1980s, closing in 1987.
‘Pattern number 295’ was produced in a variety of colours and all the examples typify the Art Deco styles of the 1930s and can still be appreciated today.
