Art Deco Python Clutch

This is a stunning Art Deco clutch in all over python skin that is in pristine condition. It is lined in typical taffeta fabric with the interior purse for coins. The hardware is chromed metal with a black enamel closure. Is a good size that would be suitable for evening use as it can handle the essentials.
Outstanding Suede Lanvin Clutch in original box 1950s

This is a stunning large clutch bag comprising brown kid suede with kid skin edging. it is a basic envelope design with no closure and one interior zip compartment. It is constructed to fold over securely to fit under the arm. A feature of this bag is the Art Nouveau enamel decoration on the front of the bag. The bag is lined in fabric that has a monogram logo. It is worth noting that Lanvin did not manufacture their handbags in the 1950s but rather designed them and outsourced the manufacture as most couture houses did during that time. This bag comes in its original box with the plastic dust jacket intact as well. The labelling 'Made in British Colony Hong Kong' was used principally in the 1950s/1960s which matches the dating here, although some clothing manufacturers continued to employ it into the 1980s. Complete, then, with its original packaging, this is a timeless and elegant bag that is worthy of Audrey Hepburn!

Brown crocodile Gherardini clutch 1970s

This is a perfect clutch by Italian design house Gherardini, a contemporary of Gucci. It is the perfect combination of soft crocodile skin and smooth calf skin. It has a modern round closure. Marked Gherardini.
Gherardini was founded in Florence in 1885 and has experienced and influenced fashion changes over 135 years. It is considered a symbol of Italian excellence throughout the world, always being synonymous with style, practicality and meticulous craftsmanship. These are some curious facts about its history:
The Gherardini family is one of the founding families of the Republic of Florence. The family was forced into exile as a result of the civil war between the Black and White Guelphs, along with Divine Comedy author and fellow White Guelph Dante Alighieri, who later placed the prestigious family in their coveted paradise.
One of the most prolific members of the family was Lisa Gherardini , who is believed to be the Mona Lisa , the woman whose mysterious smile was immortalized by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1503. In 2008, the fashion house held an event dedicated to the union between art and fashion, past and future titled Re-Thinking Mona Lisa Gherardini, in honor of her legendary ancestor.
Leonardo's masterpiece was sometimes printed on limited edition monogrammed Gherardini bags and the proceeds from the sale were used to fund artistic restoration.
Considered the original inventor of Made in Italy , in 1915 Garibaldo opened his first store on Via del la Vigna Nuova, a few meters from the historic boutique of his contemporary, Guccio Gucci.

This is a lovely small bag that is made from taffeta. The feature is the large carved Bakelite closure in black and white. It is lined in a woolen fabric as the original lining has been removed as it must of degraded. Still quite usable albeit quite small for today's requirements. Another collectable piece!
Vintage Woven Straw and Raffia Beach Bag, 1950s

This is a roomy beach bag made from woven straw with a bold floral design to the front in raffia work using soft vintage colours in pinks, yellows, blues and light apricot with green foliage. Semi circular in shape it has a double zip with the tags marked ‘Rex’ and a simple loop handle. The edges are bound in fabric and the base protected by a sheet of clear plastic with eight metal stud feet. The interior is fabric lined with a design of repeating rose blooms on a black dot ground and there is a large pocket. A summery design from the 1950s which could find its place on a picnic today!

This is a very interesting bag that comprises python skin throughout. It is lined with taffeta and has python on the interior accents. It has an unusual wooden closure and a handle that is also covered in python skin and is in great condition. It is large enough for use any time day or evening.
Vintage Wicker and Plastic Woven Basket with Handles, probably mid C20th

A highly attractive woven basket with a lid and handles, the composition combining both wicker and plastic twine in an attractive combination of textures and colours, the base, the edges of the top and lid and the loop handles finished in wicker and the main body mainly in plastic. There is also a simple plastic twine fastening to keep the cover closed. By repute purchased in France, it is extremely hard to assign a country of origin to this piece, but the use of woven plastic suggests a dating to the 1950s, a time when the well known 'Lloyd Loom' items enjoyed great popularity. The condition of this basket is excellent and it is quite sturdy so could be an eye catching accompaniment to a summer excursion!
Striking 1950s applique summer handbag

This bag is made for spring and summer! It is a large bucket style bag trimmed in faux leather. The body of the bag is a sort of faux hessian finish. It is appliques on the front with a butterfly design in rhinestones, crystals and ribbon work. It is lined in Naugahyde and has a wooden base.
Ring Tail Lizard Skin Minaudiere with a strap handle marked JD, 1930s

The Minaudière is a women's fashion accessory intended to substitute for an evening bag. A case with compartments, it allows storage for several items in a small space, such as a makeup compact, lipstick, watch, reading glasses, or keys.Minaudières appeared during the 1930s and their invention is attributed to Charles Arpels, of Van Cleef & Arpels, but many jewellers and haute couture designers have created their own models.
This example opens out on one side (the clasp is rather stiff) to reveal a mirror and two lidded powder compacts (complete with the guaze liners) and a holder for a comb (now missing) and on the other where there is a cigarette holder and a compartment presumably for matches. On the lid of this is a pouch doubtless intended as a purse. At the end is a pull out lipstick holder with a small strap and the piece hangs from a strap handle marked with the initials JD.
The piece is in remarkable condition for its age and recalls an era of elegance which a contemporary user might emulate on some special occasion.
1950s Regency style needlepoint kit bag

This is a lovely needlepoint bag with a floral motif on a cream coloured ground. It has gold hardware in the Regency style and a chain handle. It is lined with taffeta and is in immaculate condition. These bags were quite popular in the 1950s as they were a kit. The purchaser would do the embroidery work at home and then send it off to the manufacturer and they would make the bag. These bags are now becoming quite difficult to find and this is an excellent example of the type.
1960s Dorothy picnic basket

This is a fun basket that is typically known as a picnic basket. It would have had many uses in its time. It has the two flaps on the top and an open inside. Just like Dorothy had!
Patent Crocodile Handbag, Italian 1970s

This is a truly elegant handbag made from deep brown burgundy crocodile skin, the slim rectangular body with a fold over flap secured by a gilt metal clasp, the reverse with an open pouch pocket, the interior lined with a zip pocket and a stamped mark 'Made in Italy', and the loop handle suspended from gilt metal rings of geometric design, all finished with delicate hand stitching.
Please note that the original double strap handle has been recently remodelled to a simple loop as being more practical and consistent with the overall design of the piece.

It is made of raffia and is embroidered with floral motifs. This would most likely have been a souvenir made for tourists. This is a very elegant minaudiere compact formed as a small handbag, fitted for make up, coin purse, cigarettes etc. opens on both sides with mesh handle, silver plated. It has a charming clasp at the top which indicates either cigarettes or makeup to indicate what is on each side. It has a mesh handle.

This is a beautiful small engraved minaudiere purse with portraits and space for makeup etc. The pictures inside give a glimpse into the owners travels as they are of two young women posing on the deck of a ship. The case is very finely engraved silver with scrolls and foliage and there is a monogram of GMC. Marked Sterling which indicates it is most likely American. The button closure on the side is either a cabochon sapphire or a paste facsimile.
