Murano starfish centrepiece Bowl with millefiori decoration, second half C20th

A centrepiece bowl of shallow form, the irregular rim with eight projections, four with ‘hooks’ and moulded geometric pattern panels and four slightly projecting, the base with an irregular ovoid foot, the glass cream coloured with a clear border and decorated with small roundels in the millefiori design. Even without a label, the general style of this bowl and the form of the foot suggest manufacture at the Murano glassworks in Italy, but other examples in the same shape but without the ‘millefiori’ decoration carry a label reading ‘Murano Glassware’ which confirms the provenance. The workmanship here is typically skilful and the cream ground is effectively enlivened by the ‘millefiori’ highlights. Dating is probably to the 1960s or 1970s.
