Japanese Arita Jardiniere decorated with flowers and two tassels, Meiji period, circa 1900
A Japanese Arita Jardiniere of typical bulbous globular form with a short flaring rim, decorated in boldly painted underglaze blue with flowering peony, chrysanthemum and lotus amidst rocks with a flying bird, the base with a repeating geometric design, the neck with repeating stylised floral panels and the top interior with ‘precious objects’, the shoulder with two modelled brown glaze tassels, the base glazed. Paste of the foot rim and the style of decoration suggest a circa date towards the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912).Size: | Ht 23cm Width (max) 29cm |
